Lighting and Accent Gallery celebrating 15 years

A Chatham-Kent business is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

Shannon Kelly says the Lighting and Accent Gallery has been a family-run organization from the start.

“The whole family works here. Mom, dad and both daughters,” she said.

“15 years ago my parents (Jim and Sandy Kelly) bought it. I was coming off of a job, so I joined my parents here. Kristy was at University and over the years Kristy and I have taken turns working back here as we both explore other options going to school, moving away for jobs but we have always seemed to come back. Through that we have grown the Lighting and Accent Gallery. I do consultations now and Kristy is running the books, and so on.”

Shannon added: “Everybody in the family buys, so you are getting a variety of styles here because we are all very different. So that’s how it’s happened.”

She said the store differs from the big box stores.

“The number one difference between us and the box stores is the amount of variety you are going to see when you walk in the door,” Shannon said.

“We try to hit every trend and not just the popular trends. We have every price point available to you. So we can beat the big box stores in some areas, but we also have the areas for the person who is looking for their investment pieces. We can do that too and it is here in the store.”

Also, Shannon said the Lighting and Accent Gallery is personalized, unlike the big box stores.

“They just know what’s on the self. We know what’s out there and we can point you in the right direction to get you to your dream fixture. So that is the biggest difference here versus the big box.”

Shannon said if there is something they don’t have, they can you help you find it.

“It is one of the biggest things we do here,” she said.

“We have people bring in magazine articles with lighting in it, we have people that take pictures when they were driving past something on the highway and we find it for them. We do a variety of accents. Mirrors is one of our largest search and find, but we also do wall sconces, both candle and electric. We find pictures. We do a lot of picture seeking as well. We have hit a trend with vases. Those tend to be something that we order in and you buy off of us because they are very hard to find but we have found a few for clients.”

Shannon said their crew focuses on providing personal service.

“If you find something on the web, we have a price match guarantee,” she said.

“If you find it, we will beat it or match it depending on what it is. Sometimes we can’t go any lower but we will match it giving you the option of having somebody to come back to if something goes wrong. We are striving to be a choice over the Internet because of the personalized service that you get here. You can call us, we will fix it. That is one of the biggest things that we want to general public to know is that we are the face behind the light. You don’t have to keep emailing back and forth.”

In celebration of their 15th anniversary, the store has a special on.

“Basically anything in the store that is electric you can take and get an additional 15% off,” she said.

“Many of our pictures and accessories are 25% or more off. We are basically wanting you to get the lighting that you want as our birthday gift.”
