Traffic stop leads to drug charges in Dawn-Euphemia

A Dresden man and a Tilbury man face drug charges after a traffic stop in Dawn-Euphemia.

OPP officials say on Friday October 14, just after 7 p.m., a uniform member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, conducted a traffic stop in the area of Esterville Road and Kent Line, Dawn-Euphemia Township for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

During the traffic stop, the officer detected a strong odour of suspected raw cannabis marihuana emanating from the interior of the motor vehicle.

Upon speaking with the occupants of the motor vehicle, 279 grams of suspected marihuana and a load black powder .50 calibre rifle was voluntarily surrendered to police.

A total of $1,420 in Canadian currency was also located and seized in addition to the drugs and firearm.

As a result, a 33-year-old Dresden man was arrested and charged with:

– Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

– Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

– Disobey Stop Sign

– Driver Fail to Surrender Licence

Also a 28-year-old Tilbury man was arrested and charged with:

– Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

– Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

– Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Firearm

Both accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday, December 14th, 2016.
