The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has implemented a load restriction on the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg.

Jan Metcalfe, engineering technologist with the Municipality, said the “precautionary restriction” on the bridge along McNaughton Avenue, between James Street and Wallace Street over the Sydenham River, is as a result of bridge maintenance inspections.

The load restriction of 15 tonnes will be in place starting Friday, October 21, until further notice.

Municipal official have posted a detour from Murray St., to Base Line, to Old Glass Rd., to Mason St., to Arnold St. and to Dufferin Ave.

Crews had been working on the bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some delays were caused due to the lifting of the bridge deck.

We’ll provide more information when it becomes available.

  1. they need to make them take the baseline route permanently because the trucks race through town starting at 4 a.m.-6 p.m. and from experience and living close to dufferin ave i know as well as almost getting flattened a few times cause the trucks just run the red lights cause their going to damn fast
