Seth makes his debut

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith made his much-anticipated debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old was penciled into the right wing slot of the 4th line for the Leafs, who ended up winning their second game of the season, 3-2 over the Florida Panthers.

Griffith did not put any points on the board, but he registered two hits in the game and had an even +/- rating in 9:09 minutes of ice time.

He also saw 40 seconds of powerplay time late in the third period.

Following the game head coach Mike Babcock talked to reporters about Griffith.

“He made plays, he was on the puck,” Babcock said.

“The big knock on Seth was he can score but could he play 200 feet and is he competitive without the puck? We talked about that. It’s real simple for me — he’s got to be competitive without the puck and play 200 feet and everything else is a bonus for him. The ball is in his court.”

Griffith and the Leafs will travel to Montreal to face the Canadiens on Saturday.

Game time is 7 p.m.

Tartans lose in Sr. Football

The Wallaceburg Tartans senior boys football team fell to the Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks on Thursday in Chatham.

The final score was 24-3.

Wallaceburg (0-5-0) will finish last in the league, which is comprised of ‘AAA’ and ‘AAAA’ schools.

The Tartans are the only ‘AA’ school in the league.

Wallaceburg will host the Northern Vikings on Thursday, November 3 in the regular season finale.

They will then host the SWOSSAA ‘AA’ final on Saturday, November 26, against the champion from Windsor-Essex.

McCrae steps down

The Wallaceburg Lakers have made some changes to their board, effective immediately.

Reports say Jim McCrae has stepped down from some of his duties as team President, due to health issues.

Skip Harvey will be stepping up to help.
