Jeep ignites after crash, driver charged with impaired

A Leamington man faces impaired driving charges after crashing into a grain wagon in Essex.

OPP officiuals say on November 9, at approximately 1:45 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 3 between Walker Road and Essex County Road 34 in Tecumseh, Ontario.

A white Jeep Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) travelling eastbound on Highway 3 near Sexton Side Road struck the rear of an eastbound farm tractor hauling 3 wagons, loaded with grain.

The Jeep burst into flames but the driver was able to exit the vehicle safely.

The driver of the farm tractor was not injured.

The driver and lone occupant of the Jeep was arrested at the scene by police after exhibiting signs of impairment and was transported to an area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Tecumseh Fire Rescue Service and Windsor Essex Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to the scene.

A 58-year-old Leamington man is charged with the following offences:

– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

– Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams

– Possession of Cannabis

He faces a future court date.
