Sue’s Kitchen Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall

The Sydenham Current office is heading south today, as I pack my bags for Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith and his Florida Panthers teammates will be in town to battle the Detroit Red Wings, and we’re thrilled to have acquired press credentials for the contest.

Throughout the day, you can expect a ton of photos and video of the experience.

It has been quite a journey for Seth this season, starting off with the Boston Bruins, then to the Toronto Maple Leafs and now with the Panthers.

While he hasn’t lit up the score sheet yet for Florida, he’s contributing solid shifts in consistent action with the team.

Similar to the journey we all watched as fellow Wallaceburg resident Shaun Suisham kicked his way through a solid NFL career, it has been fun to watch Seth through the years, striving towards his goal of playing in the NHL.

He’s a prime example and role model for all of our youth in the community, that if you work hard, put your mind to something and never give up, you can accomplish the goals you set out for yourself.

This doesn’t mean every kid who laces up skates in the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association will be playing professional hockey… but everyone can choose their own goal to strive for and go get it.

It won’t always be easy.

It takes dedication, sacrifice and commitment to achieve whatever goal you set out for yourself.

But the satisfaction you receive when you accomplish it, is worth all the effort.

Stay tuned on the Sydenham Current today for more insight into our experience.

Maybe we’ll see if Seth and his teammate Jaromír Jágr want to play a quick round of pool noodle hockey before the game tonight, similar to the kids this past summer at The Family Centre Holy Family site.

If you have a suggestion, story idea, column idea, or if you want to say hello… drop me an e-mail at aaron@sydenhamcurrent.ca.

Video of the day

Here is a cool ‘Throwback’ video interview I did with Seth at his home in Wallaceburg, just days after being drafted by the London Knights into the OHL back in 2009.
