Florida Panthers winger Seth Griffith posed for a quick photo with Aaron Hall of the Sydenham Current after the teams morning skate at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on Thursday.

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith is looking forward to playing close to home tonight, and in front of his friends and family.

Griffith and the Florida Panthers are in Detroit this evening (Dec. 1) to battle the Red Wings. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Following the teams morning skate at Joe Louis Arena, Griffith spoke briefly with the Sydenham Current.

The 23-year-old said he’s excited for his parents to be in the building this evening, along with his girl friend, aunt and uncle and other friends and family.

With his hectic schedule since the NHL season began, Griffith said it has been a couple of months since he’s seen his parents.

Griffith added he’s also looking forward to seeing one of his off-season training partners, and former NHLer, Belnehim’s Todd Warriner, who is set to watch him play.

Griffith has skated in 9 games so far this season, 3 with the Toronto Maple Leafs and 6 with the Panthers since being picked up on waivers.

He’s recorded 1 assist so far, and has a 1 +/- this year.

Griffith said he’s hoping to end his scoring drought tonight in Detroit.

“I need one,” he said.

Although it’s not confirmed, Griffith is expected to skate on the Panthers’third line tonight with Denis Malgin and Nick Bjugstad.

The Wings and Panthers have identical 11-10-2 records on the year so far, so a close game can be expected.
