A Chatham teen is facing charges after allegedly kicking an officer during her arrest.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say Tuesday afternoon, police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Chatham. The female youth was asked to leave the home and trespassed from the property. Upon leaving, she became very belligerent towards to the officers.

A few minutes later, she returned to the area and continued with her behaviour by insulting the officers with words and gestures. She was again warned regarding her verbally abusive behaviour and asked to leave.

She failed to comply and was arrested for breaching the peace.

Upon being taken into custody, she struggled with the officers and allegedly kicked one of them in the leg.

While at police headquarters, her behaviour continued and she damaged a cell door.

The 16-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and mischief under $5,000.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
