Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith picked up an assist in his Toronto Marlies debut on Saturday night.

Wearing #39, Griffith picked up the secondary assist on Travis Dermott’s second period goal. The Marlies ended up losing the game 4-3 to Bridgeport.

Griffith said it took him a few shifts to shake the rust off.

“I was a little rusty off the get go, we didn’t have the start we wanted as a group, that’s something we’ve got to fix,” Griffith told Marlies TV.

“As the game went on, I felt good, got some chemistry with my line. Hopefully we can keep the chemistry up and play a little better as the year goes on.”

Griffith said his whirlwind season has been tough.

“I’ve been with three different organizations, this is my second with Toronto but I didn’t come to the Marlies,” he said.

“I’m just excited to get playing some games. I’m still a young guy, still learning. When I get that chance to go back up I want to make sure I’m staying this time.”

Griffith was placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers on Thursday, and was claimed the next day by the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second time this season.

The Leafs immediately sent Griffith down to the AHL.

In 24 games this season in the NHL, Griffith has recorded 5 assists.

Griffith skated on the top line for the Marlies on Saturday, alongside Brendan Leipsic and Byron Froese.

They’ll be back in action on Sunday afternoon, with a 3 p.m. game against Springfield.
