Seth scores first for Marlies

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith scored his first goal of the season on Wednesday night for the Toronto Marlies.

Griffith’s goal came at the 3:37 mark of the first period, giving the Marlies a 1-0 lead.

They would eventually prevail 2-1 in a shootout.

Griffith was the first shooter for Toronto in the shootout and was stopped.

The 24-year-old forward now has 1 goal and 2 assists in his first three games with the AHL club.

He was acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in a waiver wire deal on January 20 from the Florida Panthers.

They immediately sent Griffith down to the American league.

The Marlies will play back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday against the Syracuse Crunch, before entering into the All-Star break.

Wallaceburg Midget AE Rep team eyeing OMHA crown

The Wallaceburg Lakers Midget AE Rep team will start the 2nd round of the OMHA’s on Saturday in Petrolia.

It is a six point series.

Here is their schedule for the second round:

– Saturday, January 28 in Petrolia, 6:30 p.m.

– Sunday, January 29 in Wallaceburg, 6:50 p.m.

– Thursday, February 2 in Petrolia, 9:40 p.m.

– Friday, February 3 at Wallaceburg, 9:30 p.m.

– Saturday, February 4 in Petrolia, 6:30 p.m.

– Sunday. February 5 in Wallaceburg. TBD

Lakers fall in final home game

The Wallaceburg Lakers lost to Wheatley 7-2 in the final game at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena this season.

Conner Lovell and Ryan MacAlpine scored the goals for Wallaceburg.

The Lakers, who own a 3-34-1 record on the season, will finish last in the Hobbs Division of the Junior ‘C’ loop this year.

They have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

They’ll wrap-up the season Friday night in Dresden and Saturday in Mooretown.
