Seth Griffith tearing it up for the Marlies

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith has recorded 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in his first 5 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

Griffith had 2 assists on Friday night in a 5-3 win over St. John’s.

He turned around and picked up 1 goal and 1 assist on Saturday in a 4-0 win over the same St. John’s club.

Griffith was re-acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in a waiver wire deal on January 20 from the Florida Panthers.

The Leafs immediately sent Griffith down to the American league.

Griffith and the Marlies will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday at home against the Syracuse Crunch.

Dresden Kings finish 5th, facing Blades in 1st round

The Dresden Kings wrapped their regular season on Friday night, with a 7-1 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Kadin Ritchie and Logan Purbrick led the way with 2 goals each.

The win secured the 5th spot in the Hobbs Division standings for Dresden, as they finished the year with a 19-20-1 record.

The Kings will face the Blenheim Blades in the first round of the playoffs.

– Game 2: Monday, February 6, in Dresden at 7:30 p.m.

– Game 3: Thursday, February 9, in Blenheim at 7 p.m.

Lakers finish off last place season

The Wallaceburg Lakers finished off their tough season with a loss on Saturday to the Mooretown Flags, 5-1.

The Lakers ended up with a 3-36-1 record on the year.

They were 7 points out of a playoff spot, behind the 8th place Petrolia Flyers.

Wallaceburg did pick up their three wins on the year against the Flyers.

Wallaceburg Midget Rep team sweeps Petrolia

The Wallaceburg Midget Rep hockey team swept the Petrolia Oilers with a win on Friday night.

The Wallaceburg team struck first to make it 1-0 and that’s the way the first period would end.

The 2nd period would see Petrolia come on strong early and tie the game at 1-1, but the Wallaceburg team would not be out done and would score a late goal with only seconds left in the 2nd period to make it 2-1.

That would prove to be the turning point of the game as Wallaceburg had a jump in their step to start the 3rd and would add two more goals.

The final score was 4-1 and it capped off the sweep.

The team will await of the Mooretown and Mount Brydges series.

The schedule will be released at a later date.
