Wallaceburg’s Bryan Cowden competed in the ‘Warm Up Columbus’ marathon near the campus of Ohio State University on Sunday, February 19.

Cowden placed first in his division and was 8th overall.

The course was a 1-mile (or 1.6km) loop done 26 times testing not only your physical ability but your mental ability as well.

This was Cowden’s third attempt at qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

The standard set by the Boston Athletic Association for Cowden’s age and gender is to run below 3 hours, 10 minutes.

Cowden ran 3:10:50 on Sunday… just 50 seconds short of his dream.

“I felt stronger as I progressed throughout the marathon,” Cowden said.

“I’m just notorious for having slow starts. Physically and mentally I wasn’t drained at all. I could have kept going. I guess marathon #4 will be the race I qualify. I am not giving up.”

  1. This is a great effort and I am quite confident that the Sydenham Current will be doing a story on Bryan Cowden in the near future about his first trip to the Boston Marathon!
