The difficult road may lead to a beautiful destination

It has been said, “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”

My daughter, Beth, went on a mission trip for five months back in the fall of 2014.

The trip was a long and winding one, going through three commercial airports, complete with terminal changes, and culminating in a white-knuckle hopper flight from the mainland to the beautiful island of Belize in Central America.

Beth was exhausted and worn out from the travel to get there, but when she saw the view, the hardship of the itinerary evaporated into thin air.

A doctor has to go through years of intense schooling, completing a bachelors’ degree, followed by specialization in medical school with clinical studies and an internship under a seasoned veteran in the medical field.

The road to graduation and getting one’s own practice is a long and difficult one, but the reward is great.

What goals have you set for yourself in life?

Does the path to get there seem like an impossible task?

Consider Jesus, who walked the Via Dolorosa, the Way of Suffering, all the way to the cross of Calvary.

It was the most excruciating road He ever walked, but it changed the course of history forever.

No doubt about it, Jesus struggled with the decision to take this road.

While praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, He said to the Father in Mark 14:36, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

So, friend, if at all possible, stay on that difficult road.

It just may be leading to a beautiful destination.
