Organizers say the recent Frank Dymock Classic Tournament was another success this year.

A total of 29 teams participated in the event, which was held at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena and the Walpole Island Sports Complex from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19. The Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame stepped up to become the ‘Champion’ sponsor for the event this year.

The winning teams were as follows:

– Novice Division – Lambeth Lancers LL1

– Atom Division – Wallaceburg Lakers

– Peewee Division – Waterloo Wolves Sunlife

– Bantam Division – Dorchester Dragons LL1

Frank’s wife Joanne Dymock was on hand, along with other family members, for a ceremonial puck drop at the start of the tournament.

“Frank is a big part of Wallaceburg, a big name in Wallaceburg… anybody that has been on the ice before or has laced up skates, knows Frank,” Tom Cogghe, organizer of the tournament, told the Sydenham Current.

“In 2008, they started the tournament in honour of Frank. He was always at the tournaments, always sat in the press box and watched the kids play. He loved being there.”

Dymock was a retired linesman with Ontario Hydro, but he is famous in Wallaceburg for being the go-to guy for skate sharpening for 50 plus years.

He died in December of 2013 at the age of 82.
