What are some sure signs of spring? Spotting robins or red-winged blackbirds, flowers peaking through the gardens, buds opening on trees, geese flying over head and in Wallaceburg… the Sugar Shack opening up for the season.

The Wallaceburg ice cream shop is set to open this year on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m.

“All of the regular flavours will be back, but no orange pineapple because it’s not ready yet,” said Leslie Thompson, owner of the 1645 Dufferin Ave. business.

“All of the machines seem to be working fine. We will have back apple pie, lemon meringue, chocolate peanut butter. Every ones favourites, salted caramel toffee, they will all be here.”

Leslie said they will also have an assortment of custom cakes available as well.

“We are working on them right now as we speak,” she said.

“We are trying to get the freezer full for people who want them opening day.”

Leslie said they will have ‘mini melts’ ready for opening day as well.

“We have banana split, cotton candy, tutti fruity, which has no milk in that one, chocolate mint, cookie dough, cookies and cream.”

Leslie said they also have homemade treats ready to go, like chocolate dipped licorice and more.

“They are already made and bagged for opening day,” she said.

“There is a new one that is Easter M&M bark which is really funky with M&M’s and little candies and it has tie dye pink, white chocolate and milk chocolate. Chocolate covered licorice, white chocolate almond bark, peanut butter cups and chocolate covered cashews. On opening weekend we are also going to be giving out free chocolate dipped marshmallows.”

Leslie said “puppy cones” will be available for all the dogs coming through the drive-through, which will also be open on Saturday.

Soft serve ice cream will be available and frozen yogurt as well.

“Opening day we are having a draw. Anyone can enter to win a $50 gift card for the Sugar Shack,” Leslie said.

Drop by on Saturday for a treat and to enter the draw.
