The Wallaceburg Tartans Swimming Team participated in OFSAA this week in Windsor.

The event had over 2,300 swimmers and 234 schools participating at the WIATC on Tuesday March 7 and Wednesday March 8.

Kris Chauvin was the only swimmer from the SWOSSAA region to qualify in the Sr. boys 100m freestyle. He swam a personal best, taking 1.34 seconds off his time to place 30th in the province.

Emily Tapp achieved her goal of making the OFSAA championships in the Jr. girls 50m backstroke. She swam an outstanding race to place 30th in the province.

Tallie Laprise did well in the Sr. girls 100m freestyle. She equaled her best time to place 18th in the province, just missing the afternoon finals as first alternate.

Chelsey Johnson swam her personal best time twice in the Sr. girls 100m backstroke. She placed 12th in the morning prelims and moved up with an excellent final swim for a ranking of 11th in the province.

The Sr. Girls Medley Relay: Chelsey Johnson, Alyssa Wadsworth, Megan Maxim and Tallie Laprise had a solid prelim swim to make the afternoon finals. In a very fast field, they came in 13th place in the province.

The Sr Girls’ Free Relay team of Amanda Metayer, Megan Maxim, Chelsey Johnson and Tallie Laprise gave it all they had in a close race to earn a trip to the afternoon finals and place 11th in the province.

The Tartans coaching staff sent out a special thanks to community volunteer coach Tony Metayer, who is hanging up his stop watch after his final OFSAA championships. This will conclude his years of commitment to coaching swimming and helping many Wallaceburg students find a love for the sport.
