Madison Broad has strong showing with Team Ontario

Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad had a strong showing at a meet in Indianapolis recently with Team Ontario.

The 16-year-old Chatham Y Pool Sharks swimmer flew to Miami to train with the team from February 19 to March 1.

From there, she flew to Indianapolis to swim for Team Ontario in the Indianapolis Grand Prix Series from March 2 to March 4.

At the meet, she swam the 100 freestyle with a best time of 100.65, she swam the 100 fly with a best time of 1:04.08.

She also swam the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.65 and the 200 backstroke with a new best time of 2:14.35.

This placed her in the ‘B’ finals, where she finished 11th overall.

She also swam the 100 backstroke, making the ‘C’ finals, with a time of 1:03.62.

In terms on training, Broad keeps very busy.

She trains in Chatham and travels to Toronto for a week at a time to train there as well.

On Monday’s she trains for three hours in the mornings and as hour and a half at night. On Tuesdays, she trains for one hour at night, Wednesday is three hours in the morning, Thursday is two to three hours in the morning and an hour at night, Friday is three hours in the morning and an hour at night and Saturday is three hours in the morning.

Next up, Broad will be off to the Canadian Trials, taking place April 6 to April 9 in Victoria B.C.

Here she will be aiming to get on a travel team.

Once she gets back from out west, Broad will be swimming at the Speedo Eastern meet held in Etobicoke from April 20 to April 23.

She will also be competing the Senior Nationals this year, which will be held August 4-7 in Montréal.
