Best friend and beloved husband of 57 years to Martha (Van Rycheghem). Joseph took great pride and was a devoted father to his two sons Ronald (Sarah) and Jeffrey. Much loved Papa to Brittany (Brendan), Zachary, Madeline, Nicholas, and predeceased grandson Jeremy. Survived by sister Marilyn (Ken) Herman, sister-in-law Vera Cammaert, brother-in-law Jules and Maria Van Rycheghem, Uncle Joe Van Acker, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families in Canada, U.S.A and Belgium. Predeceased by his parents Frank & Rachel Van Der Paelt, in-laws Henri and Madeleine Van Rycheghem, sister Leona and Remie Van Hove, brother-in-law Joseph Cammaert, brother-in-law Cyril and Anna Van Rycheghem, and daguther-in-law Carol Cameron.

Joe was born on February 9, 1938 in Norwich, Ontario. He moved with the family to R.R.3, Thamesville, Ontario in 1945 where along with his father grew tobacco until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed darts, hockey, and was an avid reader sending Martha to the library often so he was never without a book. He was one of the original founders of the Bothwell Archery Club and President for many years. He enjoyed the young members, who he always gave advice to. Joseph was a member of the Bothwell Legion, Bothwell Archery Club, a past member of the Bothwell Legion Darts, Bothwell Slo-boys, and Chatham Archery Club.

Family and friends will be received at the John C. Badder Funeral Home, 72 Victoria Street, Thamesville on Monday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Private Family Service will take place on Tuesday with cremation to follow.
