Gwen Steele

1-263x300Gwen Steele passed away on Sunday March 19th, 2017, at home, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on June 19th, 1926 to Thomas and Irene McMaster of Bothwell. She married the love of her life and best friend, Clayt Steele, on September 14th, 1946 and together they lived and raised their family in Chatham. She is survived by her faithful and devoted husband of 70 years, Clayt; her three girls, Maureen Saunders and her husband Eric of Chatham, Ruth McFadden and her husband Ray of Chatham, and Hope Cunningham and her husband Ted of London; her grandchildren Nicole and Jason Laprise, Todd and Christa Saunders, Jeff McFadden, Michelle and Tyler Dam, Pam McFadden, Kristen Cunningham and Lauren Cunningham; her precious great-grandchildren Caleb, Marin, Jude and Selah; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her darling infant son Brent; her parents; and siblings George McMaster, Lloyd McMaster, Jean Plain, Bessie Wakefield, Iva Eden, Clava Holman, and Anne Harris.

Gwen loved the Lord with all her heart. Her life was a testimony to God’s faithfulness, goodness and love. She was a dedicated member of Gregory Drive Alliance Church for more than 50 years and she was a committed Sunday School teacher for 25 years. She was involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship Bible Clubs, sharing her love of Jesus with children in schools and her own backyard. Gwen’s pride and joy was her family and she loved to hear them laugh. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with them. She was the heart and soul of her family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, gentleness and love.

Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Tuesday March 21st visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service for Gwen will be conducted at Gregory Drive Alliance Church, 255 Gregory Drive West, Chatham, on Wednesday March 22nd at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brent Farquhar officiating. Interment Dresden Cemetery. Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Gregory Drive Alliance Church and Samaritan’s Purse.
