Vancoillie hired as Wallaceburg Lakers head coach

The Wallaceburg Lakers will have a new bench boss next season.

The Junior ‘C’ Hockey team announced they have hired Rick Vancoillie as there new head coach for 2016/17 season.

“Rick has been coaching for 13 years and recently coached the Wallaceburg Midgets to an OMHA championship,” Ritch Kanally, the general manager for the Lakers, told the Sydenham Current.

“Rick is a local Wallaceburg guy who played his minor hockey in the Wallaceburg system and should be a huge asset to the organization. Please welcome Rick to our organization.”

Joe Byrne Jr., one of the co-owners of the Lakers, served as Wallaceburg’s head coach this past year, after Derek Ellis resigned prior to the start of the season.

The Lakers finished in last place in the Hobbs Division last year, finishing with a 3-36-1 record.
