An investigation is underway after the Sarnia & District Humane Society removed over 60 neglected livestock from a property in Dawn-Euphemia.

Sarnia & District Humane Society officials say on March 22, the Sarnia Humane Society SPCA officers, with the assistance of the Lambton OPP executed a warrant on a property in Dawn Euphemia Township.

Over 60 livestock were found in Dawn-Euphemia, all suffering from severe neglect and cruelty and an immediate removal took place.

Many other livestock were found deceased on the property.

Members of the local farm and veterinarian community played a key role in assisting the agents with transportation and shelter for the animals.

“We would like to thank our Lambton OPP and local livestock community for assisting in this removal; all livestock are now under veterinarian care,” said Donna Pyette, executive director with the Sarnia & District Humane Society, in a press release.

“This investigation will have a serious impact on the shelter, which will run into the thousands of dollars.”

Sarnia & District Humane Society officials say while the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time.
