Home & Cottage Interiors launches fundraising program

Wallaceburg based business, Home & Cottage Interiors, is now offering a unique fundraising opportunity for groups and organizations in the Chatham-Kent and Lambton areas.

Since opening their doors at 1964 Dufferin Ave., Wallaceburg, last May they have been running project based workshops where customers spend an evening at their store painting signs, trays or clocks for their personal home decor.

“We are taking our project workshops on the road to help local charities,” said Diane Galvin, the store manager.

“We can offer a selection of custom sign quotes – often geared to the charities cause – that the participants can choose from and we supply everything they will need to complete their project.”

Most often the ‘project’ is a custom decorative sign, but they will offer other items depending on the projected size of the group.

“We need a minimum goal of 40 participants, but can accommodate up to 240 people,” Galvin added.

Galvin is not a stranger to fundraising, having spent 10 years as the area manager for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Sarnia where she helped raise over $14 million dollars.

“I fully understand the challenges and limitations of not-for-profit organizations when it comes to organizing fundraising events, and I know I can help stream-line the process for them.”

The partnership is very simple.

Home & Cottage Interiors is responsible to supply everything needed for every participant to successfully complete their project, including materials, instruction and guidance.

The charity must secure the venue, tables and chairs and supply one event day volunteer for every 16 participants.

The charity is also responsible to fill the seats, but Home & Cottage handles pre-registration and collects the deposits.

“Prior to their event, we host a special ‘Train the Trainer’ workshop at our store for the charity’s event day volunteers at which they each complete the project – which they get to keep – so that they can help oversee a couple of tables at the event.”

The volunteers are also expected to assist with the event set up and clean up, which means about a 4-5 hour commitment.

The charity will make $25 per participant, so their event could net as much as $6,000.

“I am very excited to work with the local charities,” Galvin said.

“This gives me the opportunity to put my experience as a fundraiser and my love for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and decorating together in a very positive way for the community.”

Home & Cottage Interiors has discovered immense interest in their workshops with a lot of women (and men too) just looking for something different to do.

It’s a fun and entertaining evening and you get to create something beautiful for your home or as a gift in the process.
