Two crashes, two impaired drivers in Chatham-Kent

Two men face impaired driving charges after a pair of separate crashes on Sunday.

In the first incident at around 5 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Grand River Line in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say the vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop against a tree.

The vehicle damage was considered unrepairable and it was towed from the scene.

The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by paramedics.

Through investigation it was determined that the man driving who was driving the vehicle, was under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and completed the breath tests while at the hospital.

A 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released with a future court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

In the second incident, last night just before 8 p.m. emergency personnel responded to another motor vehicle collision, this time on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Police officials say the vehicle left the roadway after reportedly crossing the centre line, forcing oncoming vehicles to swerve out of the way.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop against a utility pole causing approximately $5,000 to the vehicle.

The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS.

The officer on scene believed that the man who was driving the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and completed the breath tests while at the hospital.

A 19-year-old Leamington man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released with a future court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
