Farmer’s Market coming to Wallaceburg this summer

A Farmer’s Market is scheduled to take place in downtown Wallaceburg this summer.

Karen Moran, an executive member with the Wallaceburg BIA, said there have been three dates selected to hold the market.

“When we first started thinking about it the idea, it was to have a weekly market but the more we got into it the more we realized what a huge task it was,” Moran told the Sydenham Current.

“Especially to do it right, which it what we want. So we decided to pick three dates and we picked them to tie into other events that were already going on in town.”

Moran said the first market will be June 3, which coincides with the Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival. The second date will be July 15, which coincides with the Chamber’s Wallyfest and the third date in September 23, which is the same date as the Kinsmen’s Pumpkinfest.

“The thought was there would already be people staying in town for those events and hopefully it will help attract people from outside of town, to come into town with more things to do,” Moran said.

The events will be held in downtown Wallaceburg in the freshly repaved parking lot, beside the former Liquidation World store.

Moran said they are actively seeking vendors for all three events.

“That has been the challenge,” she said.

“Ideally we are hoping for a minimum of a dozen at each market.”

Moran said she is encouraging people to become vendors who will be offering up 75-80% consumable food products.

“Our vision is a real down to the roots farmers market,” she said, adding that they don’t envision the events being a flea market-style.

Vendor applications are available on their event Facebook page, here.
