Seth Griffith, Toronto Marlies set to begin AHL playoffs

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith and the Toronto Marlies are set to face the Albany Devils in the first round of the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs beginning on Thursday, April 20.

Griffith enjoyed a successful campaign with the Marlies after a roller coaster season.

The 24-year-old was released by the Boston Bruins in the pre-season, picked up by the Toronto Maple Leafs, released by the Leafs, picked up by the Florida Panthers, get released by Florida and then be re-claimed by the Leafs, before joining the Marlies in the AHL.

In 38 games for the Marlies, Griffith scored 10 goals and added 34 assists for 44 points.

In 21 games for the Panthers, Griffith recorded 5 assists. He also skated in three games with the Maple Leafs at the beginning of the year.

The 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs will feature the top four teams in each of the AHL’s four divisions as ranked by points percentage.

The first round will follow a two-three format with Toronto starting on the road for two games, then hosting the final three games of the series at Ricoh Coliseum.
