Police are still investigating after significant damage was caused to a Wallaceburg soccer pitch back in March.

In fact, the incident is now Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week.

A fence surrounding Perry Park in Wallaceburg, which hosts hundreds of children each summer for Wallaceburg Minor Soccer, was damaged overnight on Wednesday, March 1. Here is our original story: Wallaceburg soccer field fence damaged

Crime Stoppers officials say a vehicle caused extensive damage to the soccer fields behind Walmart.

“The vehicle entered off Lowe Avenue, drove to the end of the parking area, did a 90 degree turn just before the stones and then drove through the fence onto the soccer field,” Crime Stoppers officials say.

“The suspects (crossed) the field before driving through the fence again, out onto Gillard Street by the Works department.”

Crime Stoppers officials say the vehicle caused several hundreds of dollars in damages.

“Money that could be better spent on the youth using the field,” Crime Stoppers officials said.

“Mischief to our parks, fields and green spaces shouldn’t be tolerated. If you know who did this call 1-800-222-8477 and earn a cash reward.”

Dan Vancoillie, a member of the Wallaceburg Minor Soccer Association executive, told the Sydenham Current back in March he did not know how much money it would cost the group to fix the fence.

“This is where we always play for the summer,” he said, adding the group has experienced damage to portable washrooms at the site and ATV’s driving on the field in the past.

“There is not much we can do… we’re going to have to pay for it now.”

Police officials say damage was caused to about 40-feet of the chain linked fencing.
