Filby: E. Roy a resident of R.R. #3 Chatham passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Windsor Regional Hospital at the age of 86.
Born on the family farm in Howard Township, son of the late Norman (1980) & Pearl (Bedford) (1954) Filby. Beloved husband of Verna (Jackson) Filby. Loving dad of Glynda Longmore (Thomas) of Blenheim and Nancy Filby (Dan Gray) of Windsor. Proud Papa of Carrie Osborne (Reg) of Alberta, Melissa McEllistrum (Cale) of Alberta, Sarah Dudgeon (Jeffery) of Chatham and Thomas Joseph “T.J.” Longmore (Nicole) of London. Cherished Great Papa of Kohen and Meira McEllistrum, Rebecca Longmore, Amelia and Kelsey Osborne. Dear brother to Alvin Filby (1994) and Eleanor (2001), Leigh Filby (2009) and Mary, Iva Chewinsk (2003) and William (2016), Ada Ure and Clarence (1997). Roy will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Roy worked many years for William Spicer & Sons as a mechanic and in the parts department. Bill was a true gentleman and provided Roy with his start in the farm equipment business. He worked several years at Profota’s Farm Equipment and Ford New Holland. He was a former member of Country View Golf Course. He was proud of his farm equipment toy collection. He dearly loved his family and especially glowed around his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Filby family will receive friends at the John C. Badder Funeral Home 72 Victoria St., Thamesville on Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow and interment at a later date at Botany Cemetery. At Roy’s request, casual “Jean Attire” for visiting and funeral.
