Arson investigation after Hiram Street blaze in Wallaceburg

The authorities are being tight lipped after a fire at a home on Hiram Street in Wallaceburg on Saturday.

Chatham-Kent fire, police and EMS crews responded to a blaze at around 2 p.m. on April 22.

Chris Case, assistant fire chief with the Chatham-Kent Fire Department, told the Sydenham Current on Monday that the incident is being investigated by the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Case said he would not provide any details or comments about the incident while the investigation was on-going.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has the incident listed as arson on the Crime Plot feature on their website.

Details of the investigation are not known at this time.

Officials with the Chatham-Kent Police Service could not be reached for immediate comment.

At the scene on Saturday, there did not appear to be any injuries as a result of the blaze, although this has not been confirmed.

Police officers were at the scene, along with an ambulance.

Three fire trucks and several firefighters were also at the scene.

A portion of Hiram Street, between Johnston and Selkirk Street, was blocked off for a portion of time.

Sources say the Ontario Fire Marshall was set to be called to the scene
