Sarnia Northern topped in the Wallaceburg Tartans on Wednesday in LKSSAA boys and girls soccer action.

The final score in the girls game was 5-1.

Ashleigh LaBlanc scored the lone goal for Wallaceburg.

In boys action, the Tartans lost 4-0.

This was the first game of the season for both teams, after a contract dispute between the Lambton-Kent Secondary School Athletic Association (LKSSAA) and the Ontario Soccer Association.

A two-year contract was eventually reached this week, as both sides could not agree about player discipline and student confidentiality.

Janine Day, the athletic director at Wallaceburg District Secondary School, told the Sydenham Current everyone at the school is happy the season was salvaged.

“The athletes and coaches are very happy that the soccer season will continue,” she said.

“Both the teams have been practicing in hope that the situation would be resolved. Both teams are looking to win ‘AA’ LKSSAA for the second year in a row.”

The girls team will host LCCVI today at Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg at 3:30 p.m.

The boys will host LCCVI at Kinsmen Park, starting at 3:30 p.m. a well.
