Your Hometown Deli: A delicious Mother’s Day meal choice

With Mother’s Day fast approaching and reservations filling up quick, why not give the special ladies in your life a delicious home cooked meal, with the help of Your Hometown Deli in Wallaceburg.

“Most of the guys out there don’t really want to cook and they can come here and have a great home cooked meal,” said Kevin Blake, a co-owner in the Dufferin Avenue business.

“We make it right here on site. We have different sizes of our prepared entrees starting with family size, double size for a couple or single sizes for individuals. We have got shepherd’s pie, lasagna, chicken tetrazzini, which is a favourite, cabbage rolls. All of these things are available at Your Hometown Deli. We have got mini meat loafs and all kinds of pot pies ready as well.”

Kevin said they will be open until 3 p.m. on Saturday this week.

“If you pick it up on Saturday and put it in the fridge you can cook it Sunday and it will be hot or we can have hot for you to pick up Friday or Saturday, just call ahead.”

Kevin said they also have many different kinds of breads and salad available as well.

“I would suggest if they want to special order a bread that they call us on Friday and we will have it available on Saturday when they come in,” he said.

“For salads, they can call ahead and get whatever size they want made up. We have red potato bacon salad, dill pickle pasta salad, a Greek pasta salad, a macaroni salad. Than we do leafy salads and we will make those up large as well. We will make a whole tray of Greek salad or Caesar salad. Whatever people would like. We will do it for them.”

He said vegetable and cheese trays are always a great option.

“That is always a favourite for bigger gatherings,” he said.

“We have fruit trays, veggie trays, combination trays so that if the crowd is a little bit smaller you can do a half fruit, half veggie. Same with meat and cheese. You can do a smaller tray with half cheese and half meat for smaller groups of people.”

And don’t forget about dessert.

“Homemade ride pudding, actually if you want a really big tray of rice pudding, we have done that before for a larger crowd,” he said.

“We have brownies and homemade loafs. Butter tarts and squares. We even do dessert trays. So we will do a small dessert tray with 20 variety pieces of desserts and that always makes a nice gift too.”

For any of the orders, Kevin said they need at least a day warning.

“For instance if you need bread on Saturday then you have got to give us a call on Friday, so we can get our order in for Saturday and it comes in fresh that morning,” he said. “For trays we can get away sometimes with very little notice, but we prefer one day. Even with the fruit and veggie we have to go pick the stuff up, clean it and prepare it.”
