Red Devils beat up on Pacers

Cory Lucier led the way for the Wallaceburg Red Devils (5-1-1) on Wednesday night, as they topped the Point Edward Pacers (3-3-0) by a score of 14-9 in Ontario Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse Association action.

Lucier had a 7-point night, scoring 6 goals and adding 1 assist.

The veteran leads Wallaceburg in scoring through the first seven games of the season, collecting 33 points (16 goals and 17 assists).

Head coach Justin Durston said he was happy with the win:

Tanner Cole had a big 5-point game for Wallaceburg as well, scoring twice and adding 3 assists.

Kyle Dawson had a hat-trick for Wallaceburg, Tyler Brown added 2 goals and Vern Hill had 1 goal and 1 assist.

Noble Jacobs made 30 saves in the victory.

It was another chippy contest for the Red Devils, as the Pacers had 64 minutes in penalty minutes, while Wallaceburg had 55 of their own.

Wallaceburg’s Mitch Miller and Cullen Bowles were both booted from the game in the third period for being involved in two separate fights.

A total of 400 people packed into the stands at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena for the game.

The Red Devils are second in the entire league in fan attendance so far this year, as 1,700 fans have packed into the arena in the first four games for an average of 425 fans per game. The Six Nation Rebels lead the league with 2,440, or 610 fans on average in four games.

This was also the first game behind the bench this season for assistant coach Jordan Durston, who is back home following his second season in the National Lacrosse League.

The first place Red Devils will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Owen Sound to battle the North Stars.

The team will be back at home on Sunday for a Mother’s Day tilt against the Orangeville Northmen.

The ball drops at 4 p.m.
