Former Baldoon property officially re-zoned as agricultural

Nearly three years after closing, the majority of the former Baldoon Golf Course property has officially been re-zoned as agricultural.

Chatham-Kent council unanimously approved the staff recommendations brought forward at Monday’s meeting.

North Kent Coun. Joe Faas moved the recommendations, and there was no debate on the issue.

Included in the recommendations was the severing of the 2.84 acres of the property, which features the Clubhouse at Baldoon restaurant and banquet facility. A special provision to add an assembly hall on this portion of the property was also approved as an additional permitted use.

Also, a 2.15 acre area in the northwest corner of the property was re-zoned as hazard land, to protect a naturalization area on that portion of the property. It was set aside as “habitat compensation for significant wildlife habit” which was identified through a development assessment report.

A staff report says the plan is to plant two rows of trees around the perimeter of this portion of the property, in order to help with the habitat protection.

The Sydenham Current reported back on August 13, 2014 that the former Baldoon Golf Club was being sold and was set to shut down as of Oct. 31 of that year.
