Explosions rocked a Blenheim trucking company last week.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say firefighters from Station #18 in Blenheim were called at 10:34 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 to reports of smoke and explosions at Carey’s Leasing Ltd.

Arriving on scene five minutes later, the crews were met by a fierce and rapidly developing fire which had spread to engulf two transport trucks.

Firefighters initiated a fast attack to knock down the fire and protect other trucks parked a few feet away as well as the main building to which the fire was located directly beside, Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials said.

While also protecting neighbouring fuel tanks and trailer units the crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

“Once again we see our dedicated firefighters working to not only protect the lives and wellbeing of the residents of Chatham-Kent but also working hard to protect the valuable businesses that are the economic engines of our community,” stated Chris Case, assistant chief.

“The crew from Blenheim did a fantastic job of getting to the scene and quickly bringing the situation under control. Every day responses like this remind me that I am immensely proud to be a member of Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services, where our teams work 24/7 to protect lives and livelihoods.”

The cause of the blaze is being blamed on the transport trucks electrical wiring.

Damage is estimated at $250,000, while approximately $2 million in property was saved.
