Police investigation outside Wallaceburg Legion

A police investigation is on-going outside of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18 in Wallaceburg.

Four police cruisers were parked out front of the 52 Margaret Ave. building at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

A section of the front yard of the Legion was blocked off by police tape and evidence markers were spotted in various locations on the property.

A Canadian flag was laying on the ground at the base of the flagpole, along with a cigarette butt container.

Droplets, of what appeared to be blood, could be seen along the sidewalk in front of the building. It could also be seen smeared on a pole.

A Chatham-Kent Police Service officer was also spotted taking photographs on the sidewalk outside of the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre, across the Sydenham River from the Legion.

Mike Hindmarsh, an executive member with Legion, told the Sydenham Current the Chatham-Kent Police Service are handling the investigation.

“Something happened at the Legion, whether it is vandalism or something else… we don’t know,” he said.

“It happened during the night sometime.”

Hindmarsh added that one of the neighbours living near the Legion alerted the Legion executive after seeing the damage.

Hindmarsh said the Legion will still be open for business today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

No immediate details were available from the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

We’ll provide more information when they do become available.
