Red Devils fall just short against Six Nations

In a close, back-and-forth contest on Sunday afternoon, the Six Nations Rebels (13-1-0) slipped by the Wallaceburg Red Devils (8-4-1) by a score of 13-12.

The top-ranked Rebels scored on a penalty shot with just 13 second remaining in the game to complete the come-from-behind win. Wallaceburg had led 12-10 with less than three minutes left in the game, before three straight goals by Six Nations.

Jamie Knight, assistant coach for the team, told the Sydenham Current it was a tough pill to swallow coming up just short, but the coaching staff was proud of their effort:

Tyler Brown led the way for Wallaceburg with 6 points, including 3 goals and 3 assists.

Cory Lucier had 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points,

Carter Hastings and Evan Mathany each had 4-point nights, with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Parker Gihuly scored 1 goal and added 2 assists, while Kyle Dawson scored a pair of goals.

Brock Daugherty also scored a short-handed goal for Wallaceburg.

Noble Jacobs made 35 saves in the loss, he also helped his caused by adding 2 assists.

The team’s were tied 3-3 after one period and 9-9 after two periods of play. The Rebels had 48 shots on net, while Wallaceburg had 46.

A total of 475 fans packed into Wallaceburg Memorial Arena for the game.

Wallaceburg remains in second place in the Far West Division behind the Windsor Clippers, who has an equal amount of points at 17, but one less loss.

Red Devils 12, Point Edward Pacers 5

The Red Devils topped the Pacers 12-5 on Saturday in Sarnia.

Hastings led the way with 2 goals and 3 assists.

Tyler Davis, Vern Hill and Lucier added 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points apiece.

Mathany and Gihuly had 1 goal and 2 assists each.

Jacobs made 38 saves for the victory.

– Lucier, who was recently named captain of the team, leads the club with 52 points this season, 20 goals and 32 assists.

– Brown is the team’s leading goal scorer with 21 tallies so far this season.

– Former Red Devils player and current assistant coach Jordan Durston, who plays for the Vancouver Stealth of the NLL, was honoured before Sunday’s game against Six Nations.

– Wallaceburg will be in Point Edward on Sunday, June 4 in their next game.

– The Red Devils will host their rivals, the Windsor Clippers in a huge divisional game on Tuesday, June 6. First place in the division could very well be solidified at the game. It starts at 8 p.m.
