Scheer wins leadership bid for Progressive Conservatives

After 13 rounds of voting, Andrew Scheer won the Conservative Party of Canada Leadership race on the weekend.

Here is video from Scheer’s victory speech:

Monte McNaughton, the MPP in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, helped Scheer with his campaign in Ontario and was happy with his win.

“Andrew Scheer is a real conservative and a real leader and he leaves the Toronto convention leading a strong and united Conservative Party of Canada,” McNaughton said in a newsletter.

“This was the largest leadership race in Canadian history and we are now in a strong position to defeat Justin Trudeau and win 2019. Speaking of winning, I was pleased to see results back from my riding of Lambton—Kent—Middlesex showing Andrew Scheer winning nearly 71% of the vote. Scheer won 67 ridings across the province, receiving 52% of the final vote here in Ontario.”

“It’s clear that conservatives of all stripes came together to elect Andrew,” McNaughton said.

“My personal thanks and congratulations go out to all members of the Scheer team, including the hundreds of volunteers all across Ontario. Thank you for your hard work, dedication and for rolling up your sleeves and helping to elect Andrew Scheer as our next CPC Leader.”

Chatham-Kent celebrating Tourism Week

May 28 – June 3, 2017 is Tourism Week in Canada. Chatham-Kent Tourism is marking the annual occasion with a Brochure Swap for tourism-related businesses and a celebratory event at the Chatham Capitol Theatre. The event takes place Tuesday, May 30, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. inside the theatre and is free to attend with pre-registration by emailing cktourism@chatham-kent.ca. Tourism booths will be on display, showcasing the gems the municipality has, along with a cash bar and light refreshments.

The newest tourism brochures from across the municipality will be on display and available for pick-up. CK Tourism will also be showcasing new maps created to encourage ease of travel with the closure of several exits along the 401 into Chatham-Kent during the busy tourism season.

Tourism Week is a grassroots initiative that brings attention to the economic opportunity available to Canada through travel and tourism and the public policy challenges preventing the sector from capitalizing on those opportunities.

“We are fortunate to have a vast array of tourism offerings in Chatham-Kent”, says Supervisor of Tourism Development for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Shannon Paiva. “We encourage businesses who cater to tourists, from accommodations and restaurants to attractions and businesses, to take advantage of the services we (at Tourism Chatham-Kent) have to offer. We hope to see a lot of faces Tuesday, to spread the word about the many great things to do, places to see and of course the friendly people you will meet when you #VisitCK.”
