The Wallaceburg Red Devils have made another splash in the trade market this week, as they gear up for a playoff run in the Ontario Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse League.

The Red Devils completed a trade with the Six Nations Rebels, adding three players to their roster and sending cash in return to Six Nations.

Coming to Wallaceburg is Colin Montour, Sidney Powless and Bailey Skye.

“Huge additions for our organization and what we’re trying to build here,” Justin Durston, the Red Devils’ head coach, told the Sydenham Current.

“I expect all three players to come in and make immediate impacts for us. Obviously noting the last names, they bring a tremendous amount of lacrosse experience to our team. These additions will provide us with more depth and will be leaned on heavily to contribute to our ultimate goal in bringing home a Founders Cup.”

Durston added: “Speaking to them I know they’re excited to get after it with us and we’re thrilled to have them join us.”

Jamie Knight, assistant coach with the Red Devils, said Montour is a left-handed defenceman in his last year of Junior and is the little brother of Brandon Montour, who plays defence for the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL.

“Was captain of Rebels and moved up to the (Junior ‘A’) Arrows,” Knight said. “Has a job in Leamington so he wants to play for us for rest of season.”

Knight said Powless is a left-handed forward and was one of leading scorers for the Rebels.

In 11 games for Six Nations he had 42 points, including 19 goals and 23 assists. He still has one year of junior eligibility left after this season as well. He’s also the younger brother of Johnny Powless, who plays for the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League.

Knight said Skye is a left-handed transition player, who was a 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association All-American.

He plays a similar style of lacrosse as current Red Devils player, Vern Hill, Knight said.

He would remain with the club for next season as well and was in the top 20 in the National Junior College Athletic Association for caused turn overs and ground balls.

The Red Devils and the Windsor Clippers currently have identical 9-4-1 records, as both clubs sit atop the Far West Division standings with 17 points.

Windsor will be visiting Wallaceburg on Tuesday evening, with first place in the division on the line.

The game gets underway at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena at 8 p.m.
