Margaret Hazzard

There is a mom-shaped hole in the fabric of our family now, as we sadly announce that our mother, Margaret Theresa (Houle) Hazzard of Sombra Township, slipped from her earthly ties into the Presence of the Lord on the Lord’s Day, June 11, 2017, in her 90th year.

Beloved wife for 65 years of the late James Russell Hazzard (2013). Cherished mother of Patricia (late John Goodwin) (Gerald) Waring; Elaine (Alvin) Ikert; Jim (Anne) Hazzard; David (Stacey) Hazzard; Merle (Shelly) Hazzard; Sandra (Perry) Routley; Mark (Valarie) Hazzard; Ruth (Todd) Manuel; Paul (Janet) Hazzard; Betty Green; Stephen (Lisa) Hazzard; Janice (Jon) Zinck. Beloved grandmother of 34 (of whom 20 are married); and loving great-grandmother of 49 (with 3 yet unborn). Born on May 18, 1928 to the late Wilfred and the late Alice (Butterman) Houle; sister of Arthur (Mary Lou) Houle; the late Ann Douglas (late George Douglas); and late Robert (Mary) Houle. Fondly remembered aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Our mother was a remarkable woman, who was gifted in so many ways. Besides being uniquely special to all the people listed above, Mom herself was… an amazing cook, an accomplished seamstress, an avid knitter, a voracious reader, a savvy businesswoman, a compassionate volunteer with VON, a generous giver, an adventurous world traveller, a competent crossword puzzler, a gadget guru, an electronics techie, and a loyal friend. Most importantly, Mom was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. We will be forever grateful for her love and her incredible life.

Family and friends will be welcomed at Bethel Pentecostal Church, 35 McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, and also at Bethel Pentecostal Church on Thursday, June 15 at 12:30 pm, prior to the celebration of Mom’s life at 1:30 pm.

Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg, following the service. Memorial gifts to honour Margaret’s memory may be made to VON Geranium House or to the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, designated for the River of Life Bible School in Sri Lanka.
