Body found in St. Clair River near Corunna

A body has been pulled from the St. Clair River near Corunna.

OPP officials say at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the St. Clair River in the area of Corunna, Ontario to investigate a deceased person located within the river.

Investigation revealed that patrons aboard a local River Cruise Boat had observed a deceased person floating atop the St. Clair River, police officials say.

With the assistance of the OPP Marine Unit, Pt. Edward Fire Department and the Shell Refinery Marine Services, the OPP were successful in recovering the deceased person and returning that person to the Corunna boat ramp.

The Regional Coroner’s Office, has taken control of the deceased in anticipation of a post-mortem in order to determine the deceased’s identity and cause of death.

The OPP is very much aware that the Sarnia Police Service is currently investigating a missing person occurrence.

For this reason, the OPP Crime Unit and the Sarnia Police Service will work collaboratively in identifying the deceased.
