Rita Annette O’Neil, a resident of Wallaceburg, died suddenly at the Victoria Hospital in London on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the age of 85.
Rita is the daughter of the late Paul & Yvonne Rose (Emery) Archambault. Predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Ignatius O’Neil in 2002. Loving mother of Colleen Keane (Gary), Kathy O’Neil (Andy Lehman), Maureen Walker (Ken), Sharron Murphy (Greg), Denise Cross (Mike), Brian O’Neil, Pat O’Neil (Penny), Dennis O’Neil (Katie), Allan O’Neil (Barb), Carolyn Nogueira (Dusty), Peggy Lee (George) and Ann Gascon (Leo). Dear grandmother of 32 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Sister of Carol Beyer of Florida, Paul Archambault of Warren Michigan, Larry of Tennessee, Ron of Huntington Woods, Michigan, Fr. Don of Detroit and the late Mary Jeanne Berry of Onsted, Michigan.
Rita was a dedicated and faithful servant first to her family and also to her friends, and community. She was an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish for over 60 years serving the Catholic Women’s League, Parish Council, Liturgy Planning Committee, Weekly Prayer Group and Eucharistic Ministry.
Rita also crafted Liturgical Décor for the church and sanctuary for many years. Her service also included presidency of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and many other community initiatives. Random acts of kindness punctuated each and every day of her life. Rita loved her family, her parish, gatherings of all shapes and sizes, her gardens and a good game of cards.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Tuesday. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Wednesday, June 21 at 11 AM with visiting at the church in the hour prior. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery. If desired, remembrances to Covenant House or Our Lady Help of Christians Church may be left at the funeral home. 519.627.3231.
