Lions Club officially forms in Wallaceburg

It’s official.

A brand new Lions Club has been formed in Wallaceburg.

Lorne Brock, the president of the new group, said the Wallaceburg Centennial Lions Club was officially created on Tuesday, June 20.

“We’re newly formed and we’re growing leaps and bounds,” Brock told the Sydenham Current.

“We had to have 20 members. Right now we have 24 and we should soon have 30.”

Brock said a special flag raising ceremony is being held on Thursday, June 22 at 1 p.m. outside of the Municipal Centre in downtown Wallaceburg.

It will commemorate the 100th year overall for the Lions Club, along with the creation of the new Wallaceburg club.

Since being proposed back in April, the Lions have already made an impact in the community.

Back on May 16, the Petrolia Lions Club (Wallaceburg’s club sponsor) had approximately 400 people attend Colwell Park in Wallaceburg for a free barbecue.

The group brought their massive food truck with them and served up free french fries, hamburgers, hotdogs, pop and water.

The group ended up raising $2,810.15 for the Wallaceburg Splash Pad project. Read more, here: Lions BBQ provides big boost for Wallaceburg Splash Pad

Brock said there is another fundraiser in the works for July 15, in coordination with Wallyfest.

“The Petrolia and Wallaceburg Lions will be working together to raise some money through our mobile kitchen,” he said.

Brock said he has been involved with the Lions for a number of years and recently moved to Wallaceburg in 2012.

“I’m glad to be able to be back in the Lion Club,” he said.
