Could Seth Griffith be Vegas-bound?

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith was left unprotected by the Toronto Maple Leafs for the upcoming NHL expansion draft.

The 24-year-old winger will be up for grabs for the Vegas Golden Knights, as they make their draft selections today.

The Golden Knights’ selection of 30 players, one from each NHL Club, will be revealed at the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft event being held on Wednesday, June 21 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Griffith recorded five assists in 24 NHL games last season with the Florida Panthers and the Maple Leafs.

He also had 44 points in 38 games with the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs’ AHL affiliate.

Vegas already has a Wallaceburg connection as well.

The team’s general manager George McPhee was born in Wallaceburg (read our story from July 2016 here.)

Although McPhee grew up in Guelph, he moved away from Wallaceburg when he was three years old.

McPhee’s mother, Patricia Sherwood-McPhee-Horn, is an inductee of the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame as a skater.

The Golden Knights will start playing next season and is the NHL’s 31st team.
