Missing swimmer located safe in Lambton

A missing swimmer was located safe and sound earlier this week in Lambton.

OPP officials say on Wednesday June 21st, 2017 at just after 4 p.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to an area of the St. Clair River, along St. Clair Township, in relation to a missing swimmer.

Lambton County OPP received information from a concerned citizen who observed a male party, who was swimming alone in the St. Clair River, go under the water and did not surface.

Lambton OPP in coordination with the Canadian Coast Guard, United States Coast Guard and the St. Clair County Sheriffs Officer attended an area of the St, Clair River just north of the Town of Corunna.

The area was extensively searched however the male party could not be located.

At just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday June 21, the Lambton County OPP responded to a report of a suspicious person in the Town of Corunna.

OPP attended the area and located a 58-year-old male party from the Village of Point Edward.

Through the course of the investigation, OPP was able to confirm that the suspicious male was the same reported missing swimmer from the St. Clair River.

The male party was located safe and sound.

No medical attention was required or requested.

The Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind the public that the water can be as dangerous and hazardous as it is beautiful.

It is everyone’s responsibility to be aware of the dangers whenever you are in, around, or on the water.
