Transport fire closes 401 in Chatham-Kent

(OPP)

The 401 will be closed in Chatham-Kent for three hours Thursday evening, as police investigate a tractor trailer fire.

Chatham-Kent OPP officials say on July 13 at around 5:45 p.m. officers responded to a tractor trailer collision on Highway 401 near Communication Road.

Police allege that investigation revealed a westbound tractor trailer had lost control and struck the north side cement barrier, which caused it to bounce off and strike the centre barrier.

As a result, the centre barrier was pushed into the eastbound lanes and the tractor trailer caught on fire.

The driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any injuries, police say.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and Highway 401 in both directions was set to be closed for approximately three hours in order to accommodate emergency crews and for the safe removal of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
