Municipal officials are hoping the fire ravaged home on Hiram Street in Wallaceburg will be torn down next month.

Erin Merritt, a by-law enforcement officer with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, told the Sydenham Current she received the environmental report on Tuesday and has completed the tender document.

“It has now been posted on the Municipal website for contractors to bid on the demolition and clean-up of the property,” Merritt said.

“This tender closes Friday, August 25 at noon. These tenders will then (be) reviewed and awarded accordingly.”

Merritt said the successful bidder will have to ensure they get all shut-offs and then apply for a demolition permit.

“Hopefully this clean-up will take place in September 2017,” she said.

Several neighbours in the area have contacted the Sydenham Current with complaints, ever since the property went up in flames on April 22.

Some of the complaints, included: knee-high grass, rotten food in the backyard, mattresses lying around and the presence of rats in the neighbourhood.

The Chtham-Kent Police Service investigated the fire as arson, but failed to press any charges.
