Heroin and meth seized during arrest

Heroin and meth were seized by the Chatham-Kent Police Service during an arrest this week.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on August 5, a man was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to abstain from the purchase, possession or consumption of drugs unless in accordance with a legal medical prescription.

On Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 4 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man driving eastbound on Park Street in Chatham.

The officer recognized the man and knew that he was suspended from driving.

As the officer turned around, the man allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed.

The officer caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the area of King Street East.

The man was taken into custody for driving while under suspension.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was allegedly found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine and heroin.

The 29-year-old Chatham man was charged with driving while under suspension, two counts of failing to comply and two counts of drug possession.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
