Jean Hargrove of Wallaceburg

Jean Elizabeth Louise Hargrove (Truan) passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Sunday, August 27, 2017 in her 95th year.

Loving and devoted mother of Susan Clement (Greg). Cherished grandmother of Kristen Snyder (Tim) and Jonathan Clement. Proud “GG” of Hannah, Rachel and Benjamin. Special aunt of Elizabeth MacWilliam and Donna McFadden. Jean was predeceased by her parents James and Pearl Truan, her husband Harry, brother Don Truan, her sister and best friend Doris MacWilliam and niece Heather MacWilliam.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Wallaceburg and enjoyed watching young people grow and learn in her role as a guidance secretary at WDSS. Jean enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, reading and gardening, but her favourite pastime on a summer evening was to sit on her porch and watch the Steinhoff Park baseball games and talk with friends passing by. Jean had many kind neighbours who helped her stay in her house until she was eighty nine years old. When she moved to Sydenham Residence she was treated with dignity and kindness by all the staff.

Jean was a long time member of Trinity United Church and she called on all her religious strength to give loving care to her husband who struggled many years with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. This was long before there were options for care in the community.

Special thanks to Sandra and Cheryl for their loving and comforting pastoral care to Jean over the years. The family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional kindness and care given by Dr. Dudley and her staff, the Sydenham Residence, the Wallaceburg Hospital staff as well as the Chatham-Kent Hospice staff for their sincere compassion and to Dr. Mayo and Dr. Burgess for their wisdom and guidance.

Jean will be remembered by a private family service. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Chatham-Kent Hospice, the Alzheimer Society or Trinity United Church in Wallaceburg.
