The Wallaceburg Airhawks are gearing up for the fall hoops season.
House league
A 6-week house league program at Wallaceburg District Secondary School will start on Wednesday September 27 and will be run weekly there after.
Age groups are Grade 3 to 5 and 6 to 8, with times to be announced shortly.
The Airhawks house league program is for girls up to Grade 8 and boys up to Grade 6.
Registration dates are September 13 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and September 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. both at Progressive Ford on Baseline Road in Wallaceburg.
Parents can also get their children registered on the first night on September 27 as well.
Cost for the house league is $50.
The child’s birth certificate and registration money will be needed when they register.
Travel (OBA)
The Airhawks will also be hosting tryouts for any Chatham-Kent girl wishing to play basketball.
Tryouts for the travel teams will be located at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.
The tryout dates are September 10 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Grades 3 to 6, and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Grades 7 to 8.
A second tryout will be September 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Grades 3-6 and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Grades 7 to 8.
Teams will then be selected according to numbers per age group, for example: a Grades 3 to 4 team, Grades 5 to 6 team and a Grades 7 to 8 team.
Coaches and teams will be announced after the club sees the number of kids for each group.
There is no cost to tryout for the travel teams.
Players are being asked to be at least 15 minutes early to register and to be ready to hit the floor at the scheduled time, as there is only an hour per group.
Fee for the year will be $400 per child, which will include two practices per week for an hour and a half, along with tournaments and any extra games the coaches pick up.
Parents are responsible for hotels on top of the registration fee when your child makes the team.
