OPP: Theft, impaired, speeding, speeding and more speeding

Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent OPP received 31 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

OPP officials say there were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, traffic enforcement, traffic hazards and impaired driving.

Speeding

OPP officials say on August 25 at around 12:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was on general patrol on Highway 401 near Orford Road when they observed a vehicle allegedly committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, a 46-year-old from Beavercreek, Ohio was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The set fine for this offence is $140 with total payable of $175 and three demerit points attached to offenders’ drivers licence.

Impaired driving

OPP officials say on August 25 at around 11:50 p.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was on general patrol on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road when they observed a grey Dodge Ram allegedly committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol, police allege.

The driver was transported to the detachment for further tests.

As a result, the male driver, a 42-year-old from Tilbury, was charged with drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 29, 2017 to answer to the charges.

More speeding

OPP officials say on August 26 at around 8:30 a.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Victoria Road when they observed a vehicle allegedly committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, a 52-year-old from Blainville, QC was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Theft

OPP officials say on August 27 at around 10 a.m., Chatham-Kent OPP officers responded to a theft complaint at the campground in Rondeau Provincial Park.

The complainant advised their Nikon DSLR camera and photography equipment was stolen.

Even more speeding

OPP officials say on August 27 at around 2:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was conducting RADAR enforcement, in the construction zone, on Highway 401 near Mull Road when they observed a westbound vehicle allegedly exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

The RADAR registered a speed in excess of 135 km/hr.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the female driver, a 25-year-old from Tilbury, was charged with:

– Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and

– Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Speed measuring warning device found

OPP officials say on August 27 at around 3:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Scane Road when they observed a vehicle allegedly committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, a 42-years-old from Dexter, MI was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
