Man charged after a 10-year-old boy was assaulted

A Chatham man faces charges after allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old boy.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on Wednesday just before 1 p.m. officers responded to an assault type incident at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, it was learned that a man had allegedly struck the son of a woman he is in a relationship with.

The man left the residence prior to the arrival of police.

However, while the woman was speaking to an officer about her son allegedly being assaulted, the man returned, police say.

Minor injuries were reported and the boy did not require medical treatment.

At 1:30 p.m. the 33-year-old Chatham man was arrested at the residence and charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was later released with a court date of September 19, 2017.
